ICFF
The 20th annual New York International Contemporary Furniture Fair, is a show that offers the best in modern design. It was recently held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. Since I am more into Chinoiserie than laser cut steel, even I found some wonderful pieces that I would like to own.

This laser cut steel table in a fretwork pattern from Jason Champion, is available in an array of colors that make it the perfect table for summer dining.

New Growth custom fixtures, designed by Christopher Poehlman, are so beautiful and simple I almost ordered one on the spot.
Laminated fabric tables from Glimmer Glass Furniture made me think of a certain fabric line that would look good on these.
The pink vanity from Duc Duc, because the color is too much fun.
One persons trash is another persons treasure, just fill the chair form with recyclables and it becomes instant seating, from Demarconia.

A Country Luncheon
The start of the weekend summer party season is well underway, the invitations are pouring in.

Memorial Day weekend started at Crow Hill, the country house of John Knott and John Fondas of Quadrille Fabrics. Then it was off to noted editor Larry Ashmeads place on the Hudson for drinks and to end the day in the hills at art expert Katharine Carters for a casual dinner and bonfire- what fun it was, and it's just the beginning.

Post Awards Dinner
Public relations domino, Susan Becher’s annual post Alpha Awards meatloaf and macaroni and cheese dinner, is a very coveted invitation for those in the know. Each year she assembles a roster of media types, designers and other fascinating people for a fun night of chatting and good food. This year proved no different, among the guests were Domino Magazine Publisher Beth Brenner, designers Thomas Jayne, Thomas Burak, Carolyn Sollis, editors Carolyn Englefield of Veranda, Katherine Scully of Architectural Digest, Sabine Rothman of Traditional Home and Orli Ben-Dor of House Beautiful (who at 9:30 was dashing off for a late dinner with some friends who were visiting) to name a few.

The Alpha Awards
The Annual Alpha Awards, honored a group who has helped to make Alpha Workshops the outstanding organization that it is, were held Monday night at the St. George Hotel in New York. This years honorees were Koroseal, Larson Juhl / Artaissance and ZeZe & Peggy.
Jamie Drake was there talking about his upcoming two week trip to South Africa, while House Beautiful's Orli Ben-Dor was very excited about her trip with her family to Hawaii. It all sounds like too much fun.
The silent auction was a big hit- with too many wonderful to things to choose from, it was hard to decide what to bid on first. There were several bidding wars going on which was exciting and all the better for Alpha.

Gramercy Park
Every week I come into the city with a pang of regret, because in season I hate to leave my garden in Kinderhook. However, I always find solace in the beauties of Gramercy Park. Since our city apartment is on the park, we are lucky enough to have a key to the park (a privilege reserved only to residents on the park). Today the park was in particular fine spring form, I thought I'd share a few of the beautiful blooms.

A fun upcoming event that we are really looking forward is the Metropolitain Home Magazine Showhouse this September. It couldn't be closer to us, it's at 23 Gramercy Park South, we are number 24.

The Drinks of Summer
With summer right around the corner, and the amount of entertaining we do here, I always like to have the house white and sparkling wines ordered early. This year I have found two good choices that won't break the bank. Both are under $13.00 a bottle.

For white, we are serving a Sauvignon from Touraine , Domaine de la Potine that Freddie Victoria served at his cocktail party.
For Sparkling it's Blanc de Blanc, Comte de Gascogne, it's much less cher than it's cousin Champagne and not so over invited as Prosecco.
The versatilty of white is always a benefit because, one can of course just add a splash of Creme de Cassis et volia Kirs.
The White of Summer, made by a young vintner in France available through Moore Brothers Wine Co.
For the Blanc de Blanc one needs the right glasses and napkins, we use glasses from Michael Devine Home and Diana Vreeland quote napkins from my friend Charlotte Moss.

Vladimir Kagan Couture Collection
The notable and charming uber furniture designer Vladimir Kagan just opened a new showroom in the New York Design Center to show his Couture Collection. Mr. Kagan was holding court from a sofa in the center of the showroom, where his groupies of all ages surrounded him in true idol worship style, at last weeks opening night fete. The evening was co hosted by New York Spaces Magazine.

Frederick P. Victoria & Son, Inc
The masters of chic furniture, Frederick P. Victoria and Son, Inc. hosted an intimate cocktail party in their eastside showroom recently to present their newest additions. The family owned company is now run by the son and grandson of the founder, Frederick Victoria, and is the destination to go to for iconic furniture. Their portfolio of historic pieces reads like a who's who of twentieth century designers and beau monde: Elise de Wolfe, Billy Baldwin and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor to name just a few.

Designer Christopher Maya, who's work is in House Beautiful this month.
The evening's highlight for me was the newest version of the Elsie de Wolfe biscuit stand in an updated silver finish. It is a piece to swoon over - graceful and sculptural with the de Wolfe pedigree to boot!
The original that de Wolfe was mad for.
