Randy Ridless

Interior designer Randy Ridless, a fixture on House Beautiful’s "Americas Top 100 Designers" list died Friday. I first met Randy when we both worked at Macy’s Corporate in the early ’90’s. He was such a great guy and true gentleman. What a loss.

How wonderful that you met. I admire his designs when I pop into the city - I love that he designed the main floor at Bergdorf Goodman. So sad he has departed this earth, but his designs live on with such elegance.

It really is sad, he was the nicest guy and just so talented.

I worked with Randy to design my first stores. He was so talented; he had an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of furniture and decoration. But most of all, he was completely charming and fun. He will be greatly missed.

Randy helped me design my theater in the round for my 10th grade English project. I got an A+ and a cherished memory.

He was influence was vast, from school projects to the millions of people who shopped in his store interiors. It's such a loss.

Randy Ridless was an amazing talent. I met him during the Traditional Home showhouse at Villa Maria in Watermill. And as a testament to his creativity, his room in the 2000 Kips Bay Showhouse was a completely different vision. RR did not repeat, RR kept moving forward with elegance.

I live in S FL. And I was so genuinely saddened by the loss of this civilized gregarious young man whose career and accomplishments I did not fail to note and admire in the magazines in past and recent years. He seemed to have the right balance of respect for the old school in the Maison Jansen tradition and how to extract the best from that in a way that could still enrich us in this seriously less genteel and more hurried hard edged world.

We meet in the early eightys and I loved ever encounter ever after. To Tim and Randy's family I thank you for blessing us with his presence. Googling his name to get his phone number is not how I expected to learn of his death. My life is certainly richer and better because I knew him, may God bless him.

I never met Randy personally, but my mother worked closely with him in the last year. I'm a student in Boston and frequent the Frette store on Boylston Street, which Randy designed. The space is absolutely breath-taking. The detail and perfection that encompass the store truly represent Randy's talent. Once you go in, you never want to leave.

Randy was one of a kind and is missed by many. I really wish I could have met him.
