Christmas eve is a big deal for us . Every year we have the pleasure of welcoming several of our deareast friends to an intimate dinner. This year the table was set to welcome our guests with a theme of green and red. We kept the flowers very simple, just masses of holly everywhere on the table and throughout the apartment.
Red was the accent color of choice, I used some glasses that my mother bought in the '70's and paired them with my great grandmothers plates and silver. The tablecloth is my Beekman pattern in straw.
For a little sparkle I dug out some old flea market finds. Crystal candleholders with drops, they added just enough glitter to the table.
A close up of the holly, the simplicity was refreshing.

This year Katharine Carter started a new tradtion for us, a reading. This years selection was from Truman Capote. Our long time friend Michael Rosenberg is seated next to her.
A very beautiful and elegant table setting Michael. I especially love the crystal candle holders. The new reading tradition is a great idea. Thank you for sharing. Wishing you and your loved ones the very best in 2009.
I agree, the reading tradition is really fun-and it is so rare these days. Have a great '09.

I love the idea of a reading. I grew up with this tradition as we always sat in the soft glow of the Christmas tree lights as someone would read the Christmas story from the Book of Luke. Brings back wonderful memories to me.......love your lovely table!
Michael, what is the pattern on the drapes? Thanks!!
The reading was great fun. I am happy we started that tradition. Any ideas for next years reading?
Gald you like the pattern. It's from my collection - Fretwork Delft 101-3B, You can check michaeldevinehome.com for a showroom near you. You can also do custom colors, that has a 25 yard min.
Thank you Michael for info on the pattern. I'm the designer you promised a visit when you come to Scranton Pennsylvania!! Please make it a point if ever life finds you this way. I'm also in love with your garden post and those raised beds. Any summer pictures? I'm really trying to learn as I have an "empty lot" in the back of our new house
I hope to get over your way this spring. How lucky to have a new gardento work on. I have lots of summer pics-stay tuned they will start appearing over the course of the coming months.
