Noted New York designer Matthew Whites’ newest project, the Hillsdale General Store picks up where Mr. Oleson of Little House on the Prairie left off. Using the concept of the old fashioned general store, where country folks could find whatever they needed from a spool of thread to grain, White has reinterpreted the concept for 21st urban weekenders and locals alike.
Since the store opened last October it has become a destination. Located in the quintessential rural hamlet of Hillsdale, New York it’s a quick drive from the well known shopping Mecca Hudson, New York.
Designer and store owner Matthew White
The store sells an array of product from “penny” candy to furniture. The main floor has a great assortment of both modern and vintage tabletop and kitchen accessories.
The stores selection of merchandise and display makes even the most utilitarian items seem chic.
White has really focused on American made product and things that are handmade.
The second floor has three designer shops, Whites own White Webb Finds, Boxwood Linen and Joseph Stabilito Vintage Collectables.
Store hours during the summer are Thursday to Monday: 10-5 Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
