T'was the Night Before Christmas
Christmas eve is a big deal for us . Every year we have the pleasure of welcoming several of our deareast friends to an intimate dinner. This year the table was set to welcome our guests with a theme of green and red. We kept the flowers very simple, just masses of holly everywhere on the table and throughout the apartment.

Red was the accent color of choice, I used some glasses that my mother bought in the '70's and paired them with my great grandmothers plates and silver. The tablecloth is my Beekman pattern in straw.
For a little sparkle I dug out some old flea market finds. Crystal candleholders with drops, they added just enough glitter to the table.
Winter Wonder Land
The winter snows have arrived in Kinderhook in full force just in a nick of time for the holidays. Here are a few snaps of our wonderful idealic winter village wonderland.

Decking the Halls
The country tree went up yesterday. It was the perfect snowy day to go tree hunting. After several attempts at various vendors, we found ourselves at the tree farm of Julia Ainsburg just outside of town. Julia was a great help and has a wonderful selection of the small size trees we favor for our Kinderhook abode.

After inspecting many trees, all of which I wanted, we settled on "the one": a very roly poly tree, it looks rather like the top of a very large tree. Julia cut it down for us in a few quick stokes. Off we went.
The rest of the afternoon was spent trimming the tree and watching the snow drift down on the village green.

Happily trimming the tree.

This year we opted for a silver and crystal theme of ornaments.
Love Conquers All
Love conquers all was the theme for the swank engagement party for New York designer Elaine Griffin and her finance Michael McGarry. The party hosted by the dynamic design duo Scott Salvator and Michael Zabriskie in their opulent Upper Eastside apartment was a celebration in great style for the very happy couple.
It was love at first sight for them. They met on line several months ago and will be wed at a very intimate ceremony on New Year's Day in New York and then honeymoon in, none other than Niagara Falls.

More on Holiday Decorating
I really love the holidays and the accompanying festive traditions. When the apartment in the city is decorated we love to share it with friends and family. However, this year most of our entertaining will be in the country. But the stage is still set in the city.

Massive bouquets of holly on the mantel in 19th century cranberry glass trumpet vases with gilt swan bases.

In the city we always use real wreaths. This year the decoration of choice is red feathers.

Tree Trimming on Gramercy
A big part of our holiday traditions is trimming the tree in the city. Every year, the monster tree is delivered and out come masses of ornaments and miles of lights. This year we invited our friends Amy Breedlove and Sabine Rothman to join us for the fun.

The Wonderful Persimmon
I feel in love with these ceramic Persimmons when I was at Maison et Objet. I just had to have them. Well, Domino loved them too. They made the Holiday Gift Guide!
