Foley and Cox Home

Hudson New York has a hot new home furnishings store by the power design team, Michael Cox and Mary Foley. To kick off the opening of the glam new store Foley & Cox Home they hosted an opening party for what seemed liked hundreds of their nearest and dearest.

1st Columbians part 2

For the 1st Columbians event last weekend, my partner Thomas Burak was asked by the charming event co chair Mrs. Minton to do the flowers for the tent and the Vanderpoel House dinner. Since we have learned long ago that using local flower resources is at most times a lot like Russian Roulet i.e. a game of chance. Several hundred Delphiniums and Lisianthus were brought up from the 28th street flower market in New York for the event. It took Thomas a day to prep them and the entire day of the event working on site arranging them. Here are the results.

A close up of the Delphiniums that greeted the guests.

A seven foot tower of flowers was on the center of each food table.

A few Hydrangeas and one of my new fabrics Orangerie for the bars.

The Lisianthus center pieces for the dinner tables at the unrestored Vanderpoel House dinner. The vase was distressed mercury glass which complimented the distressed state of the house.

First Columbians

The First Columbians benefit for the Columbia County Historical Society was a smashing success. Held on the pastoral property of Lois Dickson, under one of the largest tents I have ever seen, over 275 guests enjoyed the perfect country setting.
For those who chose the optional dinners hosted in private homes, there was the added pleasure of dining in a private historic house. I was really happy to have been invited to the jewel in the crown property, the Vanderpoel House which is owned by the CCHS. This dinner was hosted by the events stellar co chairs, Deborah Dutton Minton and David Smith. Mary Stuart Masterson was at our table along with her mother, father and sister which only added to the fun of the evening. It was also a treat to walk home from dinner since it’s only two doors away from where I live.

Montgomery Place

We recently had friends from Paris stay with us for the weekend in Kinderhook, as is so often the case, I was racking my brain with what to do to amuse them during their stay. The solution proved to be better than expected. We spent a day touring some of the great estates that the Hudson Valley is know for.
Sunday we went to the magnificent property, Montgomery Place in Annandale-on-Hudson, New York. The sprawling 434 acre estate was in the Livingston family for over two hundred years. The branch of the family that lived here were very much into horticulture and went as far as to hire one of my most favorite 19th century designers Andrew Jackson Downing. It was thrilling to see his work first hand.
Even though the house isn't open to the public (we were told they hope to have it open next year) the visit to the grounds was so beautiful and relaxing that it made it worth the trip.

The portico inspired by the Temple of Vesta designed Andrew Jackson Downing.

The Eliptical Pool was a very refreshing spot for us on the day of our visit. It was 90+ degrees.

British House and Garden takes NYC

British House & Garden Magazine was feted last Wednesday night by 400 various members of the New York design community. The packed event was held at the New York Design Center in the Baker Furniture showroom. It seemed as if the entire staff of the magazine was on hand for the night, as not to miss meeting the design world as we know it.

Pets and People at John Derian

There's nothing like a fete at designer John Derian's store in the East Village. They are always packed with the most intriguing people. Last nights opening for the work of Hugo Guinness "Pets and People" was no exception to the rule.

The summer party that I always find myself counting the days to is without a doubt, the First Columbians cocktail party. The annual event is the Columbia County Historical Society’s big fund raiser and always draws a fascinating group of guests. This year the event is being held on the grounds of artist Lois Dickson’s home in Chatham, New York and Ellsworth Kelly is the distinguished guest of honor. To make the night really easy and take the bother out of what to do for dinner after the cocktail party, the purchase of a dinner ticket assigns you to a dinner hosted in a private home. Check out CCHSNY.org for more details.

Irving and Fine at the Townhouse

The must have summer wardrobe from Irving & Fine was just showcased at The Townhouse of Charlotte Moss during a four day Trunk Show. The fabrics were woven in Uzbekistan and embroidered in India, the new collection of tunics, dresses and blouses made for easy summer days and nights.

The dreamy cool indigo and white range.

The beautiful detailing one of the pieces.

The line also comes in green and yellow.

The easy to wear coat with the smart pink lining.

Also while I was there I saw great new signature Townhouse handbag from Charlotte Moss. How wonderful to have a pagoda wherever you go?
